This station named after visionary American aerospace engineer and futurist Dandridge MacFarland Cole.In his book ‘Exploring the Secrets of Space: Astronautics for the Layman’ with I. M. Levitt suggested hollowing out an ellipsoidal asteroid about 30 km long, and rotating it about its major axis to simulate gravity.
The idea is to build a space station without sending materials from Earth. In this process, the robots sent from Earth will extract metals and create cavities into the surface. At an early stage, thousands of robots will be sent to the designated asteroid, "216 Kleopatra". 216 Kleopatra is a metallic, ham-bone-shaped asteroid and trinary system orbiting in the central region of the asteroid belt, approximately 138 kilometers (86 miles) in diameter. The robots will mine in the inner layer and soon will create a porous situation like the inner part of ant colonies. Later these cavities will be used for habitation. The mined materials will be used for 3D printing and the rest will be sent to the earth. Then a core in the center will be built from the material extracted from the asteroid. The core will rotate the whole asteroid in its axis and will create artificial gravity. Future mining missions in near asteroids will be controlled from the station and extracted materials will be sent to Earth and Mars Colonies. The station will also be used for future missions, training, and research on partial gravity. At the early stage, the space station will serve as a temporary habitation space for the miners. After expansion work, it will be a permanent colony for millions of people.
Mining robots and 3D printers will be sent to the 216 Kleopatra. Robots will start mining and extract material for 3D printing. Extracting material according to functional arrangements will create cavities for the first minors. Later robots will start to create interior walls from extracted metals.
Phase 1
From this stage, Astro Miners will take control of the mission and start mining other asteroids as well as Kleopatra for further expansion.
Phase 2
Construction of the core will start in at this stage. More socio-economic zone will be added according to the expansion of habitable space.
Phase 3
With the further mining mission, the robots will mine and create heavy industrial belts like Satelite and production industries. It will require more human involvement in the management and logistics department.
Phase 4
As the mining continues, the whole asteroid will become porous and controlled from the core. The core will rotate it at a certain speed to mimic gravity in inner surfaces as a result of centrifugal force.
